OLIVER SPENCER x EYE RESPECT A/W13
I have two more shows from the London Collections Men, that I cannot withhold from you any longer despite the fact I am getting the usual pre- Fashion Week excitement, where I have to multitask between organising my documents, route, correspondence alongside doing the wardrobe mathematics, choosing a smashing wardrobe for the occasion – taking the weather into account. I should by now have gotten used to it, what evokes my emotion is the fact that I do everything last minute dot.com. When I get nervous I like to write. I will bluntly say the Oliver Spencer show at the LCM was super. Don’t get me wrong all of the shows I saw were truly amazing, but what I appreciated the most in this collection was the authenticity and context to reality, as the models really looked like people on the streets – very stylish men mind me.
Of course the designer – Oliver Spencer – had more profound and complex thoughts about his Autumn/Winter 13 collection – he found inspiration through German action artist Joseph Beuys and his significant felt suit, as well as the 1960’s Fluxus movement, which can be described the best by the slogan truth will change art. Traditional and modern tailoring merge through architectural lines in this covetable men’s wear collection that shows commitment to colour with a colour palette that ranges from Forest Green, to French Blue, Mustard and Burgundy and has mainly been produced in the UK. To me personally the block stripe linen suit is amongst the most remarkable designs in this collection, yet exquisit fabrications and materials like wool, felt, lamb skin and leather make the decision hard.
Eye Respect is an exclusive eye glasses company, who have teamed up with the designer to show case simoultaneously and I hope that you can get a good impression of this rather vast space with a construction feel to it and those rocking giant eye glass installations by the label.
It is almost needless to say that such show will have a high frequency of celebrities sitting front row, in this case I spotted British rap artist Tinie Tempah, who has been present throughout many of the London Collections: Men events.
Hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did, Flames – and don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comment section below!
